Thom. Dolan Fall-Winter 2011 – 2012 collection
The line Thom. Dolan was launched in 2010, and it’s the brand of Thomasine Dolan. Thomasine had 20 years of experience in the fashion industry, before she started her own label, and she’s worked for all the important brands, like Giorgio Armani, Banana Republic, Bill Brass or Ralph Lauren.
With a very American esthetics, Thomasine mixes masculine tailoring with vintage inspiration in the creation of flattering feminine pieces. She uses high quality fabrics and hand-crafted accessories to put things together in coherent and honest collections, season after season.
The designer currently lives in Manhattan, with her husband and three kids, and there are Thom. Dolan stores in several parts of New York, as well as in California and online.
The fall-winter 2011 – 2012 collection is strongly inspired by vintage style, with pussy bows, tacky prints and romantic flowy garments. Let’s have a look at some of the pieces, and how they’ve been styled for the look book.

Let’s begin with two masculine outfits: three-quarters boy pants, knitted cardigans, hats, lace-up shoes and a walking stick are combined with more feminine elements, like the thin belts, the silk blouses, the hair and the slight wedge of the shoes. The colors are also masculine, but the model looks spectacularly feminine.
On the opposite pole, nothing is masculine in the third look of this set: an ivory lace pussy bow blouse with a silky peach high-waisted shirt and bead bracelets are as feminine as can be.

We move on to warmer colors, like this lovely floral shirt worn with a burnt-orange skirt, a brown sweater tied at the waist and similar colors in accessories. This look is perfect for autumn, and you can make it wintery by adding a faux-fur coat on top.
A simple and chic look is composed with a gray dress, long sleeved and buttoned up, worn over a checkered shirt and with a vintage inspired purse. This look is excellent for work, but you can surely pull it off on a date if you wear some cute ankle booties.
Heels and socks also work! Pair it with a wrap-around burgundy dress with orange accessories, and you have your Christmas party outfit.

A midi dress is a nice shade of plum is worn with socks and heels and arm-warmers. The dress is actually quite elegant, suitable for holiday parties, but in this combo, it can easily be worn during the day – add a blazer for the office or a cardigan for a more casual look.
Mix prints together for a youthful, but vintage inspired look. A plaid midi dress is layered with a knitted vest, and the result is smart and pretty, perfect for going out for coffee with your BFF.
Since the holidays are not here yet, there still are some working days left. Make them more festive with the aid of a plaid pussy bow shirt and a simple sleeveless dress, along with a thin belt and bracelets. You’ll look adorable!

The Thom. Dolan collection really puts an accent on pussy bow blouses. They can be worn in so many ways! Pair it with a silk midi dress for a date, with tailored trousers for an office look, or layered with a knitted sweater for an everyday look. Either way, the bow will add the necessary femininity, helping you look cute and pretty on any occasion.

Match some contrasting colors for a look that will stand out: a sky blue pencil skirt and a cloud-like pussy-bow blouse worn with a brown cardigan. You can add a vintage brooch at the neck for a retro look, or you can wear chunky bangles and rings for a modern look.
Now back to print mixing, Thom. Dolan isn’t afraid of doing so. The classic midi plaid pencil skirt is paired with a plaid button up shirt and a knitted vest, in this very school-girl look. The crossover bag and the sleek hairdo only add to the school girl image, but you can make it more “grown up” by wearing this ensemble with heels.
Last, but not least, the navy dress can be easily transitioned from day to night and the other way around. For daytime, wear it with a cardigan, arm-warmers and booties. For a party, wear it with heels and a nice trench coat – you’ll be the belle of the ball!
