The little black dress is a classic that should exist in every woman’s wardrobe – but we’re sure that you know it by now. Everyone loves it because of its high versatility: it can easily go from day to night, from casual to elegant, with just a few accessories. And a real fashionista knows that she only needs one little black dress that she can wear on various occasions. For the holidays, for example, a simple, fitted black dress can be accessorized in so many ways, that it can look like a dozen different dresses. You can wear the black dress with heels and statement jewelry for a formal occasion, or with boots and a cardigan for a casual family party. Either way, this dress will be your go-to frock this and every other holiday season!

To illustrate the versatility of the little black dress, we picked a simple, sleeveless dress, with a discreet V-neck cut, a pencil skirt in the lower half, which we found over at Closet, for $64. We styled it for a romantic New Year’s Eve dinner for two, a dinner party with your family, the office party, a cocktail party and a casual party as well, and here are our fabulous results.

What to Wear With a Black Dress

Spending the holidays alone with your significant other? Feeling romantic this holiday season? Then pair your little black dress with accessories that suggest… lots of love! We went for a pair of platform heels in red, the color of passion, and the color of Christmas and New Year, too – so they work perfectly. The Topshop clutch has small hearts sewn in, which makes it adorably romantic! We picked cute teardrop red earrings, which will emphasize your eyes nicely, and a bow necklace from Juicy Couture. To keep you warm, an affordable Steve Madden faux fur, for just $100.

Little Black Dress

For a fancy cocktail party, accessorize your little black dress with sparkly things! For example, we picked a pair of lace heels, with a festive bow and a peep-toe, a glittery belt to flatter a nice waist, and a star-shaped clutch from Modcloth, also glittery and cute. On top, a faux-fur will definitely keep you warm! An amazing star-shaped ring is party perfect, especially in the combination of gold and stones like the one from Belle Noel.

Accessories for little black dress

For the office party, you should look chic, but keep decent at the same time. For this, the little black dress from Closet is perfect – you just have to style it right! We paired the dress with a blazer by Dorothy Perkins, so that your shoulders aren’t bare; a pair of ankle booties from H&M, that are both heeled and decent; a lace clutch, which adds enough elegance to the outfit. As for the jewelry, simple, red, floral stud earrings work fine, and a Christmas themed brooch will add a touch of interesting-ness to the blazer.

Holidays style

If you’re spending the holidays at home, and there might be some last minute cooking involved, then the Modcloth apron with Christmas print is perfect to cover up your dress and protect it against stains! To keep comfortable and warm, we picked a pair of silver flats with a bow and a nice cardigan from Mango. Put your hair up with the aid of Simply Soles hair pins – cute and useful! Nothing can stop you from enjoying a delicious home cooked meal, right?

Christmas Fashion

If you happen to be going to a very casual party, to a cabin in the woods maybe, you can still wear your little black dress – just dress it down! An idea would be to add interesting tights – the black and white striped ones can really do the trick! – and some low heel ankle booties. A casual cardigan like the one from H&M is affordable and comfy, and you can spice things up with a pack of colorful bangles – we picked the red, fuchsia, yellow and brown ones from J Crew. In case you might go outside to play in the snow or to see the fireworks, don’t forget a colorful but cute hat to keep you warm!

See? Just a bit of imagination and your holiday outfit can be ready in seconds! Whenever you’re uninspired, just use your LBD as a canvas, and play around with accessories.
