Prada Fall-winter 2009/10 at the Milan Fashion Week

Miuccia Prada is an extreme designer. Sometimes, her collections are beautiful and we all love them and sometimes, she designs strange collections nobody seems to understand. However, the important thing is a Prada collection is always a reference point of the entire fashion industry. Now, when the world is facing a global economic crisis, it seems that Miuccia found some inspiration in the interwar period to design sober clothes for women without using complex designs. In this collection, simplicity is key.

Coats with an impeccable cut, women’s tailored tweed suits or wool suits, frizzed hair and ghostly skin: a combination that was typical of the European winter. In the past, this combination was used to add a special touch to the wardrobe of austere and sober women during the interwar years. This collection is a fashion universe where thick cloths dominate. Those cloths add body to the pieces and are perfect to protect from cold weather. On the other hand, dark and neutral colors allow to add a different touch to the collection, for example: blouses in red tones or some accessories in mustard.

Recently, high boots were in fashion. Now, Miuccia Prada proposes some boots in a “wellington” style tha could be perfect to attend the next Glastonbury Festival. Accessories are key in order to add life to this austere interpretation of femininity. Crocodile purses, handbags or clutch bags with a vintage vibe are a notable feature of this collection and are used to complement different fabrics and materials like tweed, leather, wood and cashmere.

Also, flat or printed velvet was added to some pieces to give a touch of elegance, madness, sybaritism and sensuality to the Prada collection. This collection has not only basic and simple shapes: Miuccia Prada is also experimenting with off-the-shoulder designs, deep necklines and voluminous shapes.
