Leather Clothing 2012: A Strong Trend for Spring / Summer

Fashion industry is the most logical industry in the world, right? There is nothing difficult to understand in the fashion world. Nothing.  Neither the evolution of trends, nor the collections, nor even the prices… and, of course, the reasons to use some materials for a season are totally understandable. For example,  isn’t it logical that leather is the perfect fabric for Summer? Of course! That is another evident fact from the fashion world.

Ok, enough of sarcasm, let’s get serious… :)

Fashion Spring 2012

ACNE

Acne opted for a biker-style look when using leather here. That is a concept that seeks for contrast when compared with the typical “Acne style”, which is more oriented to minimalism. As you can see, legs are almost full covered, but torsos are a little exposed. And this  sort of flirtatious style will be key for Spring / Summer season. And zippers too.

Derek Lam

Derek Lam is also one of those brands that are opting for the strange trend of using leather during sunny days. This time, the fashion company seems inspired by armors. The Derek Lam collection includes sleeveless tops with tight belts as well as pencil skirts and trendy leather jackets with geometric patterns and short sleeves.

Dsquared2

Dsquared2 included a very juvenile style in the collection for the upcoming season. It comes with biker leather jackets, pants with incorporated  padded knee pads, and more femenine and gaudy designs. Evidently, there is a clear influence of the traditional American style.

Guy Laroche

The military influences are still alive as well as some followers of the basic German style from Calvin Klein. Guy Laroche combines some ideas by transforming coats into dresses with leather additions. Meanwhile, leather shorts that look like running shorts are introduced as a suitable option for the season and, in some cases, leather is also combined with gauze in dresses.

Hermes

With big dimensions, Hermes offers us more aviator and military styles where leather is used extensively in some pieces. Ranging from small handbags to vests or jackets with a 1990s-style appearance… and although they look oversized, they are trendy enough.

Jean Paul Gaultier

Seduction is always present on runways. And, during the latest fashion shows of Spring / Summer trends, nobody seemed to be interested in hiding that. Actually, the allusions to erotism were very common. Jean Paul Gaultier is a trendsetter of erotic styles, whether with subtle details or wide jackets, tops, and dresses with evident Italian style that include a touch of lingerie. After all, leather can be an erotic material.

Maison Martin Margiela

Leather clothing tends to be simple and practical. Maison Martin Margiela knows that. Very long and straight skirts without complex shapes… or a very different approach by combining materials and adding more zippers.

Mulberry

Mulberry is one of those fashion brands that preserve a formal style. This season, they offer us some high-waisted skirts and shorts that, of course, are made of leather. In addition, there are some very short jackets with straight design.

Prada

Prada (and Miuccia Prada) has also opted for a style with high-waisted leather skirts; but, in this case, the collection only inlcudes a few optimal designs with remarkable prints. Also, the same like other fashion houses, Prada has included some sleeveless leather tops for the Spring / Summer season.
