Lacoste – A Tribute to Times Square New York

The French apparel company Lacoste has participated in the New York Fashion Week since many years; for that reason, it is not a big surprise that the Fall-Winter 2010-2011 collection, which was introduced in the Big Apple yesterday, has been called “Time Square”. That is a homage to the city and its fashion runways where the crocodile logo is one of the most well-known symbols due to the modern and urban style of the company.
Black is the base color on which this collection was created. But it is also combined with vivid colors like pink, green, and mustard, which is a clear reference to the characteristic electronic billboards and neon lights of the famous New York enclave.
As for shapes, Christophe Lemaire, creative director for Lacoste, declared: “The key to Lacoste is that it’s relaxed and chic.” And he added: “It’s taking classic sportswear pieces and making something new with them.” The collection has very interesting designs, including nice jackets for men and items with attractive sleeves for women.
In the new lines for men, Lacoste has opted for jackets and triple-pleated pants, very similar to those pants that René Lacoste (Bernard Lacoste’s father, tennis player, and La Chemise Lacoste founder) wore in the 1930s. And for women, wide sleeves in protective outer garments (coats), very large thick jackets made of dense knitted fabric, capes, cloaks, and very long knitted sweaters that could be transformed into mini-dresses and worn with knit leggings in different colors (which is another important feature of this collection). Of course, as usual, the classic polo shirt made of double-faced wool is also present.
