Dresses collection and more: Diesel Autumn-Winter 2009
The design company, Diesel, was created by Renzo Rosso in 1978 and is renowned for its denim oriented image aimed at the youth market and focussing on jeans, accessories and clothing. Its creative director, Wilber Das, who joined Diesel in 1988, ignored the trends of the day, instead being guided by their gut instincts. Das remains responsible for Diesel’s brand and style. Diesel is sold in over 80 countries, in department stores and other retail outlets and with 300 Diesel stores. The first Diesel store was opened in New York in 1996. In 2007 a beachwear collection was launched as well as Diesel Black Gold. Nowadays Diesel also produces footwear, lingerie, a children’s wear line called Diesel Kid, bags, jewellery, eye wear and perfume. In 2008 a small collection was launched for Adidas, called Adidas Originals Denim by Diesel.
The company markets its clothing in unusual ways and is believed to be the first clothing company to market via video games. It has also recently endorsed youth creativity, with sponsorship of youth programmes such as the Diesel-U-Music Contest. Diesel tends to outsource its clothing production to small and medium sized companies and all of its jeans are produced in Italy. Diesel is a global product and is estimated as having a consolidated annual turnover of around $330 million, 15% of which is produced in Italy. Its headquarters are to be found in north eastern Italy in Molvena from where 12 subsidiaries are managed. The company employs over 1300 people throughout the world.
Diesel clothing has a youthful, vibrant, energetic and life embracing image.

The Winter 2009 collection has a very relaxed and casual feel to it, although the clothing is definitely for living life to the full. Denim predominates, with cropped and close fitting collarless denim jackets paired with skinny jeans or slashed faded denims. There is a definite retro/vintage/boho feel to the collection, with a thrown together image that matches the bed head look for the winter. Low slung bib fronted dungarees are worn over loose fitting satin shirts with wide sleeves and gathered cuffs.

Short dresses have a cute and innocent look, focusing on shiny fabrics in colors such as silver-grey. Plum colors also feature heavily in the winter collection, with splatter-printed loose fitting tee shirts paired with slashed denims. Parkers are wonderfully stylish, warm and functional and this season come in dark grey and neutral tones, featuring hugely accentuated faux fur edging. Black leather bomber jackets look fabulous on men and women and are extremely close fitting. These can be worn over jeans or even party dresses for a particularly boho look. Dark brown ankle boots in thick leather, featuring buckles and straps, pair well with soft denim jeans and faded canvas casual double breasted waistcoats. A cropped denim jacket in faded silver grey completes the typical Diesel designer clothing look of Italian casual chic for winter 2009.
