Discordant pants: D&G Dolce & Gabbana and Emporio Armani

Did you know that there was a controversy at the Milan Fashion Week? Yes, a controversy about an accusation of plagiarism against Dolce & Gabbana related to its fashion show during the Milan Fashion Week and its collection for next autumn winter 09/10.

Well, the story is always the same but this time Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are involved directly. They have been accused of plagiarism by the Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani who claims that Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have copied him a pair of trousers in a shameless way. According to Armani, the trousers were designed by him as part of his clothing line for young people.

At first we could think that the pants (as seen in the pictures above) belong to the same designer and the same fashion show but the true is that they belong to different designers. That on the left side belong to the Dolce & Gabbana collection for autumn/winter 2009/2010 and that on the right side were introduced last year (also in January) by the Italian designer Giorgio Armani.

After several discussions, apparently, Armani decided not to sue the Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana, but he clearly said that the original idea for these trousers actually belong to him. On the other hand, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana denied Armani had ever provided inspiration for their work: “We have created our fortune through a Dolce & Gabbana style, one linked to Sicily and its sartorial traditions and which is recognised the world over”, they said.
