Solo travel is an increasingly popular concept among women. As recently as last year, it was reported that 35 million women in USA traveled alone. In fact, travel agencies have modified their catalogs and now offer a special tours under the another concept: “Women Only”.
Recently, I watched two films that inspired me to write this post. The first one was a Spanish movie (“The Influence”, first feature film by Pedro Aguilera) about a woman whose responsibilities are strangling her. It is set in the recent economic crisis that also hit Europe in 2007. Unfortunately, this woman, and mother of two children, decides to give up all, includes herself. It’s a really sad film, but at the same it is as real and deep as human. I watched it two months ago, but I couldn’t forget it. After that, some days ago, I watched another film (the French entitled “On My Way”) about another woman who after feeling drowned for her debts, decides to abandon her mother and her restaurant, and just drives to nowhere.
