The association between Passionata, the lingerie company, and Israeli top model Bar Refaeli is one of the most successful in the underwear world. It’s not the first time this collaboration becomes a reality, but in the Spring/Summer 2012 campaign of the French company we can see Leonardo DiCaprio’s ex-girlfriend with a vintage style and posing like a pin-up model in very sexy pictures as a way of showing how daring and versatile she is. Here, at NewClothing.CO, we love low-cost brands because they are able to bring high fashion to the masses and allow people -like you and me- feel that sensation of wearing trendy looks, similar to those on runways, without spending a lot of money. As usual with these types of  things that make us look good, we like to celebrate and applaud the best collections from these brands. For instance, some days ago we posted about the 10 main trends for the Spring 2012 season, and many examples of looks in that article are from low-cost brands… and they are great! But loving is not the same as idolizing and sometimes those low-cost brands demonstrate us the meaning of the adjective “low” in almost a literal sense of the word. Sometimes, fashion is contradictory and, actually, it’s very common to find “trendy” styles that are a real contradiction one in front of the other, even if they are thought for the same season.  One day the fashion trends tell  us that we should wear what  yesterday was an awful thing and the next day  a new trend suddenly emerges as a “must-have” but, three months later, it will be called “outdated”.  All that is horrible for fashion victims who are trapped by a crazy vicious circle of “buying –> storing –> throwing away –> buying again…“.

For that reason, not being a fashion victim is something that you should be proud of, because you can find smarter ways to invest your money instead of wasting a little fortune on clothes every week. And, if you are totally apathetic toward following fashion trends, congratulations! (but,  why are you reading a fashion blog?)… But, seriously, are you a fashion hater or fashion lover?  Moreover, can we divide people into fashion lovers and fashion haters?… And by the way, is there a sort of conspiration where a group of big brothers from the fashion corporations -usually with unknown name- foresee and decide how people should look? Are fashion victims only useful fools to set trends of an industry that just wants more and more money? Who decides what is old-fashion and what is trendy anyway?

Nigeria Celebrated its Fashion Week

Fashion with African influence has been seen for a long while now, ranging from Yves St. Laurent collections in the 1960s to Proenza Schouler and Derek Lam collections for the Spring 2012 season.  But now African designers are using more and more their origins and international trends to attract the attention in the worldwide fashion industry.

The Fashion Week organized by the ARISE magazine in Lagos turned its second year with a special emphasis in African designers and those who has been inspired by Africa. Seventy seven designers offered several items that combined traditional cloths with international aesthetic styles; they transformed ordinary things into elegant items and were able to show a small sample of haute couture at a hotel transmuted into a fashion paradise isolated from the noise of Lagos, which certainly is a megacity.
