Loving denim – Summer Trends 2011

Ever since the 18th century, denim has been used by Americans in their clothes. The best quality of this fabric is endurance and this is the reason why denim was initially worn by militaries and workers. Some of the earliest names associated with jeans were Levi Strauss, Calvin Rogers and Jacob Davis. At first, the difference between men and women jeans was the zipper in front for men, and on the side for ladies. Jeans were mostly loose. In the 1950′s they became popular with teenagers and things started to change. Being considered too casual, they were sometimes banned from theaters or restaurants. Jeans became generally accepted and highly popular in the 70′s and they’ve never been out of fashion since.

I’m sure you remember their collaboration with H&M for winter 2010, which was a great success among fashionistas everywhere, as well as their fabulous spring-summer red maxi dresses. This year, Lanvin focuses on much younger fashionistas, aged between 4 and 10. For the summer 2012 season, your little girls will have the possibility to wear Lanvin! Other designers have launched their own childrenswear lines lately, so it’s safe to say that this became some kind of trend – just look over at  Gucci, Stella McCartney, Dior, Burberry, Prada, Marc Jacobs or Fendi. World Fashion: NZ – Collections from New Zealand

In parts of the world, the spring-summer collections for 2012 have already been launched in the past months. This is due to the time and climate difference – and we’re talking here about Australia and New Zealand, which are in the Southern hemisphere. Their spring starts in September and lasts until November and then it’s summer from December through February. And because we all need some refreshing new clothes, since we’re in the middle of summer, we thought we’d have a look at what the New Zealand designers have in mind for the warm season.  We’ve picked four designers to present today: Juliette Hogan, Lonely Hearts, Madame Hawke and Ingrid Starnes. Overall, their styles are romantic and vintage inspired, breezy and easy to wear.
